My Mandala

The seedling
The seedling is one of the earliest stages of growth for a plant. But I see it as the beginning of maturity. It is the beginning of a new life, the beginning of independent growth and a prosperous life. Yet that is not always the case.
The seedling I found was in the middle of a vast forest on top of a mountain. It would seem like the perfect place for a young plant to grow and to evolve into a majestic, awe inspiring tree. But the one law that has been on this planet longer than us still has its effect today, survival of the fittest. It is the most basic yet the most supreme law of nature. It is this law that will lead this little seedling to its ultimate demise.
During the winter of course all the trees have their own way of surviving, their own way of reducing water loss, to survive long enough for the summer to come. During the winter of course it opens the path for the sun to place its golden rays upon the ground, giving discarded seeds a chance to prosper. It is a slow process for there is a lack of rain during the winter. But they still manage to shoot their way out of the ground.
But as the summer comes the trees come out of their "hibernation" and stretch their branches to catch every possible ray of golden ray of sunlight possible. Cutting off precious, essential sunlight from all the little seedlings below. Starved of sunlight the seedlings are forced to succumb to the law of nature. They simply are not the fittest.
It is a tragedy the way these seedlings are discarded and forgotten, but hopefully this post might help a little.
